Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive Dissonance is an invitation to explore the harsh truths of our relationships with consumerism. In this specific project, we focus on food, particularly in our fast-paced American culture, which seeks instant gratification. We are often misled by fantastical marketing, happy colors, and pictures of end results. This removes from us the connection, knowledge, and thus the overall awareness of the origins of our food.
The dissonance metaphorically and visually represented in this project highlights how we claim to love and care about animals while at the same time directly funding the mass murders of them on harrowing scales; sometimes even multiple times a day. It is a reminder to always try and look beyond what is advertised to us, to seek the truth of that in which we fund.
Check out more about this concept on my Medium page in a short essay I wrote called “Ethical Bank Account”.
